Alexey Gorodissky: “Marketing Professionals Can Be Partners in Law Firms, but Are They Braced for It?”

On September 21, 2018 the Law Firm Marketing 6.0 conference took place. The event was organized as usual by Pravo.ru. AGP Partner Alexey Gorodissky participated in the discussion named Feat Partners. Marketing Professionals. It was frank talk with law firm partners about marketing professionals, expectations and standards of work and “uncut” dialogue with marketing specialists about source of professional pride, work priorities and the ins and outs of profession. In Alexey’s opinion, lawyer partners would be willing to admit a non-lawyer, such as marketing specialist, to partnership if the latter has a realistic understanding of responsibility to be borne by a partner and meets the challenge.

As Alexey pointed out, partner is not merely a privileged status. It means first of all ongoing work round-o-clock and responsibility for the whole team, firm and business. A marketing professional being partner will also have to share all risks, including financial ones. The key function of partner is to develop business. If one aspires to such position, he should be able to bring clients and to provide appropriate “trade dress” for presentation of lawyers and their competencies to preclude any doubts of clients about correctness of their choice of counsel.
