Dmitry Yakushev, Attorney, Counsel of Andrey Gorodissky & Partners Law Firm’s Bankruptcy team, spoke at the annual Forbes Congress conference “Bankruptcy, Restructuring, Corporate Conflicts: Symbolic Cases and Lawsuits in Modern Russia”

On April 24, 2025 Dmitry Yakushev took part in the discussion of the high-profile topic: “Impact of the increase in the official fees on the efficiency of bankruptcy proceedings” within the scope of the annual conference organized by the Forbes Congress under the guidance of Yuri Sukhorukov, where the speakers expressed their opinions on several issues concerning positive and negative effects of the increase in the official fees.

Dmitry, in particular, thinks that the increase in the official fees will not result in the improved administration of justice. Courts will still be largely overloaded, while court staff used to work under certain templates will hardly change to other principles.

Dmitry does not believe that the increase in the official fees will bring about greater opportunities, up to peaceful settlement of disputes. He perceives there a reverse tendency, namely: business actors may probably be still more inclined to avoid obligations expecting that the official fees would become an insurmountable obstacle for their contracting parties.

In course of the discussions Dmitry also mentioned that he did not expect an increase in the size of legal fees, however he believes that the efficiency of bankruptcy proceedings may in general decline because official fees specifically in bankruptcy cases turned out obviously overstated, which complicates the access to bankruptcy for many market participants, especially for small businesses.

The annual conference “Bankruptcy, Restructuring, Corporate Conflicts: Symbolic Cases and Lawsuits in Modern Russia” along with the affording of a sweeping overview of topical bankruptcy issues, unlocks talents.

A separate block of the conference is devoted to the literary salon where the audience can acquaint themselves with the best works of art by finalists of the literary competition”: short stories the main characters of which are lawyers focusing on bankruptcy law matters, litigators, insolvency receivers, judges and bankrupt individuals.
In this creative session panel members read out the most successful pieces and finally an award ceremony is held.
