On September 19, 2025 the II Annual Conference: “Intellectual Property. Best Management and Protection Practices” was held. The event was organized by MK Group under the direction of Natalia Drobysh, a well-known producer of various legal and other conferences.
In her presentation Veronika touched upon a topical subject: returning of foreign trademark owners to Russia. She cited statistics on companies that left Russia since 2022, explored how the situation may stand with intellectual property (IP) of the companies who left in the current year 2025 and spoke about IP regulatory measures that can be expected in future. Amid rapidly changing market environment and hopes for favorable changes in the geopolitical situation, many companies feel like coming back to Russia, believes Veronika.
In this respect Veronika noted that returnee foreign companies should pay attention to the risks associated with the competition between their original products and counterfeit products, resulting from the parallel importation and “dilution” of legal protection of their trademarks and the successful russification and rebranding activities.
She also spoke about the import phaseout and protection of results of intellectual activity (RIA) of local companies, emphasizing the importance of taking into consideration rights and interests of Russian bona fide trademark owners in case of returning to the Russian market of departed foreign companies.
Veronika further mentioned amendments to Part 4 of the RF Civil Code (Federal Law dd. July 07, 2025 N 214-ФЗ), concerning the institution of compensation for infringement of IP rights which will take effect as of January 4, 2026 and informed the audience about new FL dd. July 31.07.2025 N 289-ФЗ “On Some Issues of Regulation of the Platform Economy in the Russian Federation”, the so-called marketplace law.
In the conclusion of her report Veronika pointed out at the importance for companies to keep in force their trademarks, patents and other IP items because it is the existence of their current legal protection that ensures stability considering the present fast-moving actual circumstances and the market situation.
The МК Group’s Intellectual Property Conference is held for the second time and assembles a wide audience including heads of legal departments of companies from various sectors of economy, patent specialists, trademark protection professionals, all kind of intellectual property experts and lawyers.
According to its participants, the conference of 2025 made a deep study of various intellectual property topics, including among other things reviews of best judicial practices, interesting cases involving construction of IP items protection strategies, patenting of IT solutions in BRICS countries, protection of specific items by means of copyright and antitrust law, as well as the much talked-of artificial intelligence, risks associated with and recommendations on using thereof.
